American Hoggers on A&E
Wednesday nights at 10pm
I love finding new TV shows to obsess over. Mostly because I love being able to share it with people. It’s almost like a calling to scour network after network to find that one new show that I just HAVE to tell people about.
So last week I was watching a ‘Storage Wars’ Marathon on A&E and I kept seeing promos for ‘American Hoggers’. I set my DVR and figured I’d give a shot. I’m SO glad I did, because this is an awesome show!!!
I wouldn’t call ‘American Hoggers’ a “reality show”, although it’s not scripted. The show follows the Campbell family, who are sanctioned feral-hog hunters in the great state of Texas. Seems that feral-hogs are public enemy #1 to ranchers, and just a menace to the rest of society. When someone in the Campbell’s community has a hog problem, THEY are the ones to call.
The Campbell’s themselves are a trip. I believe they could just sit around the living room and talk and I’d watch.
The patriarch, Jerry Dean Campbell, is a character in himself!!! He looks like a cross between Charlie Daniels and… well, Charlie Daniels…lol.
Jerry Dean Campbell
His Texas accent is so thick, they run captions on the bottom of the screen when he speaks. Now honestly, I don’t think it’s THAT bad. I understand every word he says, mainly because my Pop sounds a lot like him. I don’t know if the producers run the captions as a joke, but it’s funny as Hell to me.
Then there’s the things Jerry SAYS…
Like … “I’ve been hunting hogs since Moby Dick was a sardine”
On early morning weather … “it’s colder than the ex-wife’s heart”
On hot days … “I hate hot weather like the Pope hates the Devil’
On hogs hiding in the bushes… “the bush is thicker than lawyers in Hell”
I don’t know if all those quotes translate well here, but to hear Poppa Campbell tell it, it’s hilarious!!!
Jerry has two kids who help with the Hog Hunting business, but he seems to love his Strike dog Rooster more than the kids. Jerry brags on Rooster, saying “He’s had more bitches than a Houston, Texas divorce lawyer”. I learned that a strike dog is the lead dog in a hog hunt, and Rooster was the best!!! I say was, because at the beginning of the second episode, Rooster was found dead in the dogs kennel. He had gone missing during the pilot episode, but they found him at the end. Sadly, Jerry and his daughter had to bury poor ole Rooster, and as they walked away from grave, Jerry said “In Heaven I’m gonna have one Helluva pack of dogs”.
Jerry’s right hand man is his son, Robert Hunter Campbell. I know this guy!!! Here in north Florida, there are hundreds of Robert Hunters. Hell. most of my cousins up in central Georgia are Robert Hunters. This guy is a hard working, honest, trust-worthy, salt-of-the-Earth guy. He doesn’t always agree with his fathers old school hog hunting ways, but you can see him hold his tongue and show real respect.
Then there’s Jerry’s daughter. Can we just take a second… pause for me to catch my breathe… Krystal “Pistol” Campbell is the new Love of My Life!!! This girl is SO HOT, and has no idea! She’s cool, sexy, and tough, but so grounded. She makes me want to MOVE to Texas. When getting ready for a hog hunt, Krystal straps on a holster and gun, wears a knife, grabs a rifle, and hops in the cab of her truck. Damn girl, will you marry me?!? LOL… Seriously, Krystal Campbell just MAY be the hottest thing on TV right now. She will emerge as the star of ‘American Hoggers’.
Okay, I just thought Krystal deserved to have ONE more picture posted. Actually, does anyone know if there are any websites devoted JUST to Krystal Campbell pictures?!?
I don’t know if ‘America Hoggers’ is for everyone, but I would definitely recommend giving it a shot. Especially if you’re already a fan of similar shows. A&E is running encore presentations of the first two episodes (“Meet the Campbell’s” and “Junkyard Hog”) thru-out the week, and you can catch all new episodes every Wednesday at 10pm.
